China accounted for nearly half of all global patent filings in 2024, submitting 1.8 million applications , an increase of 9% from the previous year, out of the global total of 3.7 million according to the latest report by the World Intellectual Property Organization . The United States and Japan followed as the second and third top filers. China also ranked first in industrial designs, utility models, plant varieties and trademarks registrations.
