China Bans Uncertified Power Banks on Domestic Flights

Effective 28 June 2025, China’s Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC) has banned passengers from carrying power banks on domestic flights without a valid CCC (China Compulsory Certification) mark, with unclear labelling, or from recalled batches on domestic flights.

Why the Ban?

Rising Safety Incidents: increased reports of fires/smoke from faulty power banks in 2025.

Recalls and Revoked Certifications: multiple manufacturers had products recalled or CCC certifications suspended due to battery risks.

What This Means for Travelers?

CCC Certification Mandatory: Power banks without a valid China Compulsory Certification (CCC) mark are not permitted on domestic flights.

Recalled Devices Banned: Passengers must verify power banks are not part of any manufacturer recall list before flying.

Stricter Airport Screenings: non-compliant power banks will be confiscated at checkpoints.

Hand Baggage Only: Power banks are strictly prohibited in checked luggage and only allowed in Carry-On.

In-Flight Use Prohibited: Charging electronic devices with power banks during the flight is not allowed.

Expanded Airport Charging: Airports are encouraged to improve and increase charging facilities to reduce dependence on personal power banks.

Chinese Gift Giving Culture

Gift-giving plays a significant role in Chinese culture, symbolizing respect, goodwill, and relationship-building (Guanxi) in both personal and business contexts. It is deeply rooted in Confucian values emphasizing reciprocity and harmony. Gifts are commonly exchanged at every appropriate opportunity, including festivals such as Chinese New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as during weddings and business meetings, to strengthen relationships and express appreciation.   When giving gifts in China, thoughtfulness and presentation matter more than the value of the gift. Avoid taboo items such as clocks, umbrellas, or sharp objects, as they carry negative connotations. Instead, choose items that symbolize prosperity and good fortune, like tea, fine wine, or specialty foods. Present gifts with both hands and expect modest refusal before acceptance as a sign of politeness.   In business, gift-giving helps build trust and long-term partnerships, but it’s important to be mind...
